History of Lights
The History of Power development in Mysore State makes an interesting reading. In face, the first light was lit on our soil before Thomas Alva Edison invented electric bulb! On 26th May, 1878, On the occasion of marriage of His Highness Chamarajendra Wodiyar X, 12 arc-lamps with dynamo were imported from England and serviced to illuminated the palace yard. Later some incandescent lamps were also imported from England and the electrification was carred out by Mr. Charrington. First demonstration of electric light in Kolkata was conducted on 2th July 1879, however it is also stated that the electric light demonstration was held in Bombay during 1882.
